When you think of an environmentally friendly Toyota vehicle you are likely to think of a Hybrid like the Prius. While gas engines and electric motors are the familiar ways we adapt our vehicles to make them more fuel efficient, there’s another way you might not be aware of. The Mirai offers you the equivalent of 76 MPGs by using hydrogen as the fuel. Yes, we said hydrogen and since the hydrogen tanks can handle 5x the crash energy as steel and features automatic sensors to stop the flow of the hydrogen, it’s just as safe as any other Toyota.
The 2021 Toyota Mirai produces power in an interesting way. A reaction between the hydrogen and outside air generates energy. An electric motor is fed that energy and produces 182hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. Together the setup can return up to 76 MPGe and a 400 mile range. Refueling is accomplished by a pump and your 2021 Toyota Mirai can be refilled in just 5 minutes time.
Even with the power from the hydrogen, the 2021 Toyota Mirai is a normal car. LED headlights and taillights, 19-inch alloy wheels, a Smart Key, heated front seats, and automatic climate control are all standard equipped features on the Mirai. 20-inch wheels, automatic wipers, cooled front seats, a digital rearview mirror, and a powered rear sunshade are just some of the more intriguing upgrades.
Each 2021 Mirai comes with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. This impressive safety suite includes Lane Departure Alert, a Pre-Collision System, and Traffic Sign Assist. A Cam with 360-degree views, and Parking Assist are impressive options. Add in the standard Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and Amazon Alexa and your entertainment choices for the 12.3-inch touchscreen will be nearly limitless.
